Wrote this around the time of the Gulf War:
Smoky Haze
We trudge the quicksands of our restless times
As we tread these lean and restive days
Creeping through tears, blood and mines
Groping through this smoky haze
We hear but do not listen
We touch but do not feel
We look but hardly see
Anything through this smoky haze
We suffocate in this devil’s dance
While living this Thespian romance
Are these homosapiens’ laws the gain?
That put us in bondage again?
For when the demons pierce through this epidermis of peace
How can we see clearly through this smoky haze?
And when a storm brews in the desert
As the Balkans broil in fire
We hear the crashes lash the curses to these prevalent devices
We learn half-truths and mostly lies
Who will stop tempting fate and end this masquerade?
Will it be Sadam, Milosevic or the allies?
Will we ever cut clean through this smoky haze?
